Julia Mead is a historian who is most passionate about "the connection between macro-level politics and economics and people’s personal, intimate lives." In September 2021, Julia arrived in the Czech Republic as a Fulbright student grantee with a research project titled "Masculine Heroes: Gender and Coal Mining in the Czech Lands, 1968-2000." Julia grew up in Kentucky, in the Appalachian region, where coal mining has been on decline since the 1970s, with social and economic effects that are very similar to formerly proud coal mining hubs of Czechoslovakia. Coming from the Department of History at the University of Chicago, Julia landed at the Institute of Economic and Social History of Charles University in Prague, and she has been conducting detailed archival research for her PhD dissertation on the relationship of coal mining and masculinity. Michael Kenney has been  teaching English at Catholic gymnasium Varnsdorf since September 2021. With a Master’s in Education, a Bachelor’s in American Studies and minors in Entrepreneurship and Theology, two years of full-time teaching experience at a Catholic middle school in the U.S., and a life-long passion for sports, this general school with students from the age of 11 to 19 seemed to be the perfect fit. Many of the 6th and 8th graders whom Michael taught English and Theology in the U.S. came from immigrant backgrounds, but his only international travel experience was a week-long study trip to India. Setting off to Varnsdorf, a town of 15,000, located in North Bohemia, right on the border with Germany, was a grand transition. Marie Pangrácová je v  doktorském studiu na Přírodovědecké fakultě Karlovy Univerzity a pracuje v Ústavu organické chemie a biochemie Akademie věd České republiky. Její specializací je molekulární biologie a fyziologie. V listopadu 2021 vyjela jako stipendistka Fulbrightova programu na osmiměsíční pobyt do Národního onkologického ústavu (National Cancer Institute) ve státě Maryland. Cílem jejího výzkumného projektu je naučit se používat zásadní metodu genetického inženýrství CRISPR. Denisa Hejlová od roku 2011 vede Katedru Marketingové komunikace a public relations na Fakultě sociálních věd Univerzity Karlovy. Podzimní semestr akademického roku 2014/2015 strávila jako stipendistka Fulbright-Masarykova programu na Columbia University v New Yorku s cílem porovnat roli a funkci oborů Public Relations a Public Affairs ve Spojených státech amerických a v České republice. Spojené státy jsou experty vnímány jako kolébka PR, a pro Denisu Hejlovou proto byly logickou destinací. Během čtyřměsíčního pobytu sbírala informace a nápady pro knihu "Public Relations," ve které studentům i odborníkům z praxe médií a masové komunikace přiblížila historii a teorii oboru PR. Američtí kolegové z řad pedagogů Denisu Hejlovou inspirovali i svým způsobem výuky, zejména důrazem na diskuzi, týmovou práci a využíváním případových studií. Shailee Modi is one of 33 English Teaching Assistants who help with English language education at various Czech high schools all over the country. With a Bachelor of Science in Biology, passion for STEM and writing, experience mentoring middle schoolers and, mainly, a life-long love of soccer, Shailee was placed at Gymnázium Soběslav. Her exploration of South Bohemia began in August 2021, when she arrived in the Czech Republic to start her 10-month grant. Thanks to a warm and well-planned introduction by her mentor Romana, who is an English teacher at the Gymnázium, Shailee quickly became a popular celebrity at her host school and in her host town of 7000 inhabitants. Libor Nemeškal je střihač, kreativní producent ve studiu Kouzelná animace a pedagog střihové skladby na Fakultě multimediálních komunikací Univerzity Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně. Vystudoval filmovou historii a estetiku na Univerzitě Karlově v Praze a střihovou skladbu na Univerzitě Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně. Stříhá a produkuje audiovizuání díla různých žánrů i formůtů a získal četná mezinárodní ocenění. Je jedním ze zakladatelů Rady animovaného filmu, ambasadorem European Animation Awards a členem Rady segmentu Audiovize ČR. V akademickém roce 2015/2016 působil pět měsíců jako stipendista Fulbright-Masarykova programu na Chapman University v Kalifornii a jako asistent střihu a postprodukce ve filmových studiích v Los Angeles. Iva Landsmannová teaches English language at Civil Engineering High School in Brno. During the Fall of 2021, she participated in the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achivement Program at Kent State University in Ohio. Together with Czech colleagues Šárka Opatová from Gymnázium Děčín and Karel Buchta from Gymnázium Šlapanice and about two dozen other  teachers from Central, Northern and Eastern Europe, they spent six weeks in the U.S., focusing on strategies to broaden critical thinking and media literacy in their classrooms back home. Because of the ongoing pandemic, their stay started with a week-long quarantine period at a hotel, but afterwards, the program continued as usual. During the workdays, the group participated in classes and workshops at the university, and Tuesdays were reserved for visits to local high schools.
