Hannah Rempel is an Associate Professor of Library Science at Oregon State University. This year, Hannah has spent two semesters teaching at Charles University’s Institute for Information Studies and Librarianship in Prague as a Fulbright Scholar. Niecea Wilson, Fulbright ETA 2018-2019 at Agriculture and Veterinary High School in Lanskroun, reports on her experience returning to teach in the USA and the effects of COVID-19 on teaching and learning in Downieville, a picturesque mountain town of 300 residents in the heart of the Sierra-Nevadas. New teachers are told if they can persist through the difficulties of the first year, nothing is impossible. Well, this is my third year teaching, (my first year back in the United States after completing my 2018-2019 Fulbright ETA in Lanškroun, Czechia) and it has certainly been the most difficult. „I got you babe… I got you babe…“  Tak se mi ozývá hudba z budíku každé další ráno v karanténě. Jak někteří filmoví nadšenci poznali, je to stejná píseň, která zní ve filmu Na Hromnice o den více, na kterou se probouzí každý den hlavní postava, ztvárněná Billem Murrayem. Hlavní hrdina prožívá stále tentýž den znovu a znovu, což ho přivádí uprostřed té monotónnosti téměř k šílenství. Co se mi zpočátku zdálo jako malý vtip, připomínající právě tento film, zapříčiněný pandemií koronaviru covid-19, bohužel přešlo velmi rychle během několika týdnů do celostátního stavu nouze. Kromě toho ale i do stavu nouze mysli, v níž jsem našel stav znudění prolínající se s otráveností stejně jako hlavní hrdina filmu. Svůj pobyt v Česku jsem započal jako cizinec studující obor česká média a politologii na Fulbrightově stipendijním programu americko-české organizace založené za účelem podpory vzdělání, vědy a kultury mezi oběma zeměmi na Univerzitě Karlově. S odstupem několika týdnů a při pohledu na neblahou situaci v USA ohledně koronaviru, musím pochválit instituci University of Georgia, kde hostuji, za bleskové a správné rozhodnutí uzavřít univerzitu okamžitě z počátku pandemie. Stalo se tak hned během jarních prázdnin (7.-14.3.). V té době jsem trávila týden na Jamajce jako dobrovolnice s partou studentů z UGA.  Na misiích zde působí františkáni, kterým jsme pomáhali na základní škole s výukou dětí, natírali komunitní centrum, nebo rozdávali jídlo bezdomovcům. Z univerzity jsme dostali e-mail, ať se tam vůbec nevracíme, a připravíme se na online výuku. Díky tomuto kroku jsou na tom Atény, naše univerzitní maloměsto, pokud jde o nakažené a zemřelé, velmi dobře. Po příjezdu z prázdnin jsme každý, kdo byl v zahraničí, museli být ve 14denní karanténě. Mezitím univerzita přešla na online výuku a zároveň začátkem dubna guvernér státu Georgia vyhlásil „shelter-in-place order”, což je přísnější varianta „stay-at-home order”, kter...
