Andrea Průchová: Pozdrav z New Yorku

Srdečně zdravím z New York City a ráda bych se podělila o několik informací z prvních dvou měsíců mého pobytu zde, jak jsem přislíbila před srpnovým odjezdem.

Komunikace s oběma univerzitami, se kterými spolupracuji, probíhá výborně. Na New York University, Department of Media, Culture and Communication se věnuji především odborným konzultacím své dizertace a věřím, že se mi podaří v budoucích měsících také zprostředkovat video či textové rozhovory s několika zajímavými kolegy. Na Pratt Institute, School of Liberal Arts and Science, Department of Critical & Visual Studies mám možnost se více zapojit do samotné výuky a výzkumu. Účastním se pravidelně setkání výzkumné skupiny "Social Justice & Social Practices", kde aktuálně diskutujeme, kterak ve výuce reflektovat hnutí Black Lives Matter a v rámci výuky předmětu "Public Space" budu mít za necelé dva týdny první přednášku kombinovanou s workshopem.


Přednášet bych na Pratt Institute měla ještě na konci října, tentokrát na téma zapojení sociálních vědců do veřejné diskuze a veřejného vzdělávání, kdy budu představovat projekty platformy pro studium vizuální kultury Fresh Eye a v průběhu měsíce listopadu by měl proběhnout kulatý odborný stůl k tématu mé dizertace.

Tento týden jsem uskutečnila rozsáhlý rozhovor s literárním vědcem a vizuálním teoretikem, profesorem W. J. T. Mitchellem na University of Chicago, jenž vyjde jako závěr "Teorie obrazu", první knihy přeložené do češtiny, která vyjde v Karolinu snad již na jaře budoucího roku. Byla to pro mě ohromná profesní zkušenost setkat se s autorem a věřím, že díky podpoře Fulbrightova programu se českým čtenářům dostane do ruky zcela originální materiál původního rozhovoru.

Poslední čerstvou zprávu je, že se s výsekem mé dizertační práce zúčastním na začátku prosince konference "The Politics of Memory: Victimization, Violence and Contested Narratives about the Past" konané na Columbia University pod záštitou skupiny Historical Dialogues, Justice and Memory Network.

Na závěr děkuji za skvělou a výjimečnou příležitost se naplno věnovat tomu, co má smysl, a to ve skutečně profesionálním a inspirativním prostředí!

Usually a few weeks before graduation, boys ask girls to the prom. Girls buy a fancy dress, and boys a nice suit with a matching tie. Kateřina Kallus Brychová: Five Weeks in a Country Where Education Matters

Kateřina Kallus Brychová is a high school teacher. She teaches English at Gymnázium Brno nicknamed "Jaroška." In the summer of 2023, Kateřina participated in the Fulbright SUSI Program (SUSI stands for Study of the US Institutes for Secondary Educators) aimed at school administrators interested in  sociocultural understanding, equitable learning communities, and diversity and inclusion in U.S. education and society. Participants from 20 different countries representing five different continents spent four weeks of the program at California State University in Chico. They took part in multiple seminars and workshops facilitated by university faculty, as well as external experts, toured numerous sites throughout Northern California, and visited schools to explore varied educational paths in California. Teresa Contino: A Sense of Ongoing Wonder

Teresa Contino is a creative writer,  a mindful observer, and a fresh Fulbright ETA alumna. In May 2023, she graduated with a B.A. in English and Psychology from Santa Clara University in California. Teresa plans to use concepts of cognitive psychology to design visitors’ experiences in museums and art galleries. To prepare herself for these future plans, Teresa wanted to sharpen her pedagogical skills and broaden her culture perspective by spending a year in an environment significantly different from her own. Given her liberal arts background and passion for literature, mindfulness, crafts, and creative writing, Teresa was placed at Jiráskovo gymnázium Náchod, a college-preparatory high school, located in a town of 20,000 in northeast Bohemia.
